Formed in September 1981 after a meeting between Graham Slocombe and Brian Beale in a fun run at East Huntspill.

Current Officers

Chairman – Chuck Pearce

Secretary – Brian Beale

Treasurer – Sheila Baker.

In the early 80’s, the membership was over 100.

In 1983, we had 25 members in the London Marathon.

Over the years, the club has competed in the Avalon Cross Country League (now defunct) and Somerset County Cross Country Championships. We have also hosted the Avalon League, the County and County Schools Cross Country Championships. Club members also officiated at the English Schools Cross Country Championships at Hestercombe in the 1990’s.

The club has promoted the Burnham Half Marathon, for 10 years from 1985, and the re formed race since 2006. We also promoted the Burnham Beach Race for 5 years until 2007. We took over the Brent Knoll Race from BASC in the mid 1980’s and continue to promote it.

Club Members have supported the Burnham Aquathon and Triathlon over many years.

Arthur Gilbert has competed many races and triathlons and this year was granted an MBE in the New Years Honours for his contribution to charity.

Brian Beale is the current holder of the Jim Brunton award for services to the Somerset County Athletic Association.

Martin Rogers and Kevin Crenol represented the County in the South West Inter Counties Challenge in 2006.

The club meets on Tuesday at KASC at 7.00pm.

Annual Subscriptions are £7.50 (£5.00 – student, retired or unemployed) This is a very good deal because UKA Club Affiliation is £50 plus £5 per competing member. Unaffiliated levy for races is a minimum of £2 and could, in future be any reasonable amount decided by the race promoter.
